NIHR participates in the Universal Periodic Review of Bahrain

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), under the chairpersonship of Mr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Faihani, participated in the session for the adoption of the outcomes of the report of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of the Kingdom of Bahrain held last May, where the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain approved 139 of the total 175 recommendations.  After hearing the speech by Bahrain’s delegation and interventions by a number of States and civil society organizations, the Human Rights Council unanimously adopted the report of the Working Group at the end of the session.

For its part, the NIHR shall follow-up on these recommendations and ensure that the Government will implement them within the next four years, based upon the powers granted to the NIHR by virtue of Law No. (26) of 2014 as amended by the Decree-Law No. (20) of 2016 on its establishment.

The Chairperson of the NIHR also issued a statement to a number of news agencies on the role adopted by the NIHR in following-up the implementation of the recommendations of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review, the obvious role played by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the area of protection and promotion of human rights and the praise received from all the intervening countries, pointing out that the NIHR will develop a program and general plan for this purpose.
